Women in Neuroradiology Leadership Development Scholarship

Previous Recipients

In 2012, the Foundation of the American Society of Neuroradiology, together with the American College of Radiology and the American Association for Women in Radiology, established an award intended to provide leadership development opportunities for women in neuroradiology.

As neuroradiologists must be leaders in their field, the primary focus of this scholarship award mechanism is to support mid-career women with demonstrated experience and promise for future leadership in radiology through administration, education, research and/or practice. The scholarship aims to provide the recipient with additional leadership and management skills as well as insights to enhance their individual opportunities for future advancement.

Applicants must have an MD degree or DO degree, plus a subspecialty certification in Neuroradiology, or its equivalent for international candidates. Applicants must have demonstrated experience and promise for future leadership and management activities in neuroradiology and must be a current member in good standing of ASNR, ACR, and AAWR at the time of submission. The scholarship is targeted towards women approaching transition from assistant to associate professor, or in the early stages of associate professorship if applying from an academic institution. If an applicant is from a private group practice, there should be demonstration of their leadership potential in their practice as well as in medical societies.

Application Schedule

  1. The deadline for application receipt is 9:00 AM CT, Friday, October 30, 2026. Applications should be submitted via https://asnr.smapply.io/. Applicants will need to create an account and log in to select the award for which you would like to apply.

  2.  Selection of the award recipient will be in early 2027, with subsequent notification of the scholarship recipient.

Application Components

Applicants will complete each application task separately within the SMApply portal. No components need to be combined into a single PDF.

Complete the following tasks individually within the online application:

  1. Fill out the Applicant Information Form

  2. Upload a Current Curriculum Vitae

  3. Upload two Personal Statements (500 words maximum each)
    • Qualifications & Involvement: Describe your qualifications and involvement within ASNR, ACR, and/or AAWR (e.g., committee service, past awards/honors received), and explain how you have demonstrated leadership and/or mentorship of other women in your practice or society
    • Career Goals & Training Needs: Describe your career goals and objectives, and your need for training in leadership and management. Include your goals for attending the RLI Summit, along with a brief description of other local or national leadership conferences you have attended or plan to attend

  4. Upload two Letters of Support from an academic chair, section chief, group president/CEO, medical director, or practice leader and in addition from any leader outside of the applicant’s department or practice but relevant to the leadership area of interest are required

All application materials must be submitted electronically through the SMApply portal. Materials submitted by email or other means will not be considered.

All those with interest in the award, or employees of an institution that may be involved in the scholarship, shall recuse themselves from the selection process.

The selection of the recipient will be made by the Review Committee, which consists of the two delegates of the Foundation of the ASNR as well as a single delegate from both the ACR and the AAWR.

The recipient will receive a $2,000 stipend to cover transportation costs associated with attending the fall 2027 Radiology Leadership Institute (RLI) Summit. The Foundation will register the recipient and cover the registration fee directly. All other expenditures will be at the expense of the scholarship recipient.

The recipient of the Women in Neuroradiology Leadership Development Scholarship will be announced during the Foundation Awards Session at the ASHNR/ASNR 2027 Joint Annual Meeting, on the Foundation of the ASNR website, and via E-News to the ASNR membership. The recipient will receive an invitation to the President’s Gala during the ASHNR/ASNR 2027 Joint Annual Meeting, May 14–19, 2027.

Within three months of attending the 2027 RLI Summit, the recipient must submit a brief written summary detailing how attending the 2027 RLI Summit assisted in their professional development, insights gained, etc. Summaries may be published on the Foundation of the ASNR website and in other promotional communications supported by the ASNR, ACR and AAWR.

The award is not transferable to another individual.
