The American Society of Neuroradiology funds imaging-based research that advance our understanding of Alzheimer’s disease, help identify new treatment strategies, provide information to improve care for people with dementia, and further our knowledge of brain health and disease prevention. Our awards support investigators at every professional stage and always include categories specifically designed to help talented young scientists establish careers in Alzheimer’s imaging research.

This award was created to support investigators in the generation and synthesis of evidence that compares the benefits and harms of diagnostic imaging methods or interventions to prevent, diagnose, treat, and monitor a clinical condition or to improve the delivery of care. Comparative effectiveness research (CER) is valuable to clinicians, patients, purchasers, and policy makers in making informed decisions that will improve health care at both the individual and population levels. CER includes the direct comparison of diagnostic imaging modalities or interventions for a specific disease in a study population. Neuroradiologists have an important role in the development of new imaging technologies and image-guided procedures, as well as in the assessment of these techniques in the clinical care of patients.

The Research Grant in Artificial Intelligence was created to provide a funding opportunity for investigators who are interested in the emerging field of artificial intelligence (AI) in neuroradiology. Researchers in artificial intelligence will become the leaders who develop and translate this emerging technology into the routine clinical care of patients.
This award, created in 2004 in recognition of consistent excellence and lifelong accomplishment in basic or clinical neuroscience research, is given to an ASNR Senior member over the age of 50 recognized in the neuroradiology field for distinguished long term achievement in basic or clinical research.

This award was established to provide research opportunities for PhD investigators to advance the science of neuroradiology. Scientific research is the foundation upon which the clinical practice of neuroradiology is built. Research scientists in partnership with radiologists have traditionally led the development of new imaging technologies and image-guided procedures. The directive of these awards is to assist young scientists in their transition to becoming independent investigators in neuroradiology research, as well as to help establish investigators initiate new projects with relevance to neuroradiology.

Since 1995, the Foundation of the ASNR has been in the process of raising funds to support neuroradiology research. This is one of the most important goals of the Foundation and ASNR as the premier organization for neuroradiology. This award was created for young investigators in the early stages of their careers, to enhance their competency in areas important to the future of neuroradiology, including health services research, physiological imaging, and interventional neuroradiology. It also affords the Foundation the opportunity to begin to develop leadership in these areas.

This award has been established by the Foundation of the American Society of Neuroradiology to support and to foster high quality, in-depth neuroradiology research among trainees (fellows and residents matched in a neuroradiology program) who are committed to a career in neuroradiology. The goal of this award is encourage investigators in the infancy of their careers and foster the need for continued and evolving neuroradiology research; as well as to identify and develop future leaders in the sub-specialty.

In 2012, the Foundation of the American Society of Neuroradiology (Foundation), American College of Radiology (ACR), and American Association for Women Radiologists (AAWR) established an award to provide leadership opportunities for women in neuroradiology and/or radiology overall. Since neuroradiologists must be leaders in the field, this award is for mid-career women with demonstrated experience and promise for leadership in neuroradiology and/or radiology overall. The objectives are to provide the award recipient with additional skills and insights to enhance opportunities for advancement.

This award is the result of a collaborative effort between the Foundations of the American Society of Neuroradiology and the Radiological Society of North America. The goal of this $150,000, two-year award is to fund additional research in neuroradiology and to help prepare the next generation of neuroradiology researchers to become fully funded physician-scientists with their own research programs.

The jointly sponsored ARRS/ASNR Scholarship aims to establish the recipient as an independent investigator in the field of neuroradiology and to collect preliminary data that could lead to further funding through established mechanisms such as the NIH. The two-year ($75,000 per year) scholarship program is open to junior full-time faculty members (below the associate professor level) specializing in neuroradiology.

This award, first presented in 1986, was created by the ASNR with the support of Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to stimulate the scientific development of promising young men and women, and to aid them in embarking on a career in academic radiology. It is specifically designed to provide educational opportunities for young radiologists who are not yet professionally established in the radiologic sciences to gain further insight into scientific investigations, and to develop competence in research.

Established in 2002, this fellowship expanded eligibility to allow both neuroradiology fellows and all faculty at the assistant professor level to apply. It was created to provide an opportunity for a young neuroradiologist to pursue research in a topic that will advance the diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular disease.
